African Heart Network annual meeting and workshop
This year's AHN annual meeting and workshop will take place at the WCC in Dubai. The event provides a forum to share, network, build the capacity of members, and increase the influence and visibility of AHN and its members with regard to CVD prevention and reduction in Africa. The meeting will include the delivery of the annual report, which will focus on the delivery of AHN strategic objectives.
AHN goes to the World Congress of Cardiology in Dubai
Between 18-21 April 2012, the World Congress of Cardiology Scientific Sessions will be taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. AHN will be joined by colleagues from across the globe to share the latest science on treatment and prevention. The forum will host experts in the field, as well as commercial, public and non-governmental parties, to meet and exchange knowledge.
Dr Sidney C. Smith, Jr., President of the World Heart Federation, says “The World Congress of Cardiology is a major international event that not only focuses on the cardiology problems of the region in which it is hosted − by working alongside our national members, and for 2012 this will be the Middle East − it also addresses and tackles the importance of cardiovascular disease on a global scale by attracting a strong and enviable international faculty of experts.”
These world-renowned experts and speakers will be lead by Dr Arif Abdullatif Al Mulla, Dr Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, Dr Jeroen Bax and Dr Robert Bonow. For more information on the advanced programme, and to register, visit the World Heart Federation website:

The total number of deaths due to cardiovascular disease reaches 17.5 million a year according to the World Health Organisation.
The African Heart Network is a coalition of Heart Foundations and cardiac associates in Africa. It emerged as an organization in 2001 from the Inter African Heart Network Conference which took place in Lagos, Nigeria.
The African Heart Network, a member of the World Heart Federation, brings together Heart Foundations across Africa. The African Heart Network is committed to the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Africa, working for the prevention of CVD through lifestyle changes, and fostering alliances between organizations that share its aims.
"The mission of the African Heart Network is to play a leading role in the prevention and reduction of cardiovascular disease (CVD), so that it will no longer be the major cause of premature death and disability throughout Africa."
World Heart Day 2012
World Heart Day will be celebrated on 29 September 2012. The theme of this year's campaign will be built around women and children, in continuation of our 2011 theme, home heart health One World, One Home, One Heart. CVD is commonly considered an ‘older person’s’ and ‘man’s’ disease, and thus women underestimate their CVD risk. Children have little control over their environment and choices, and are at increased CVD risk later in life if they are not set on the right life-course. In addition, women are often the gate-keeper to their family’s health.
